THE HOUSING CRISIS
The housing crisis is burning in Metro Atlanta, with many low-income renters just one missed paycheck away from homelessness. Clarkston, GA alone has over 44 apartment complexes with thousands of renters who are particularly vulnerable-single parent lead families, refugees, immigrants, and those who are under-employed, sick, and disabled. Renters in our area are typically spending over 60% of their income on rent, and have little left for other necessities such as power, food, transportation, and medicines. Just one crisis or missed paycheck can thrust families into a traumatic cycle of homelessness.
The children- This housing instability is inflicting trauma on the children of our community and interrupting their ability to develop and learn as children ought to. And when parents experience homelessness, this can lead to their children being placed in foster care.
While there are many amazing nonprofits in Clarkston, we are the only permanent emergency assistance fund serving our area. The Clarkston Cares Fund exists to be a safety net to keep families safely housed through their crises. We have found that as little as $1000 in assistance can be the difference between someone entering a cycle of homelessness versus staying employed and safely housed!

The Clarkston Cares Fund is a program under the Giving Grace program of the nonprofit Remerge, Inc, a nonprofit fighting homelessness and injustice all over Metro ATL.
We come to know of families in need via community workers, landlords, and word of mouth.
After interviewing the client, we determine if we can help them (largely dependent on funding). Once we approve a client for assistance, we then pay their bill directly (to landlord, etc).
Through this process, we work with the client on a stability plan including strengthening employment, supportive relationships, and securing public benefits they may be eligible for. We aim to walk with the client long enough to help them become stable, thriving, and able to give back!

The Clarkston Cares Fund can't operate without your support! Our work is funded solely by donations from the community ranging from $25 to $2500 and more.
